Kitware is a scientific software services company. We apply for government and philanthropic grants to generate free, open-source software for medical imaging, computer vision, data analytics, and scientific visualization. Our software is downloaded over 150,000 times per month. If you are watching Netflix, playing World of Warcraft, studying seal populations on remote beaches, or undergoing brain surgery at Duke, you are benefiting from our software. We also offer extensive commercial software research and development services.
I founded Kitware's Carrboro office in 2005. Previously I was a tenured associate professor in Radiology at UNC. Now I help to coordinate the investigation of new technologies throughout the company. The Carrboro office, above Weaver St Market, has grown to over 45 employees. I also serve as an adjunct professor of computer science at UNC, as an associate editor for journals, and on advisory boards for universities and nonprofits.
